Vodka

Vodka is a clear, colorless liquor that is produced and very popular in Eastern Europe. The process by which Vodka is made is by fermenting and distilling simple sugars from a mash of pale grain or vegetal matter.  Vodka can be made from almost any fermentable material, from whey to molasses. It can be made from beets, wheat and grapes. Vodka can even be made from potatoes!

Cocktails With Vodka

There are many cocktails that are made with Vodka. Some popular ones are: the Bloody Mary, Cosmopolitan, and the Long Island Iced Tea.

A Bloody Mary is a cocktail that contains:

• Vodka
• Tomato juice
• Spices or flavorings such as tabasco sauce

A Cosmopolitan is a cocktail that contains:

• Vodka
• Cranberry juice
• Freshly squeezed lime juice
• An orange peel

A Long Island Iced Tea is mixed drink that is made of:

• Vodka
• Gin
• Triple sec
• Tequila
• Rum

Another popular cocktail that is made using vodka is a martini. Though traditionally a martini is a cocktail made using gin and vermouth with an olive or lemon twist, the ingredients used to make a martini have become the source of much debate and discussion. Do you use vodka or gin? Should it be shaken or stirred in ice? Should it be garnished with olives or a lemon twist? However you choose to mix your martini should be determined by personal preference. Though many will argue that a true martini uses gin, not vodka.
