Break out the Bubbly!

November 18, 2020

There’s a scene in the film Moonstruck when the entire family celebrates the engagement of their daughter, toasting her happiness with bubbling glasses of champagne. But champagne isn’t the only sparkler worthy of cooling in your bubbly bucket. There are some popular non-champagne sparkling wines worth a toast too!

Most people need advice about sorting out the best champagnes. That’s when Rockville Centre Wine & Spirits can select the most appropriate vintage for you. We’ll guide you on the different types of sparkling drinks sure to tickle the taste buds and make for a truly memorable experience.

  • Champagne: The signature sparkling wine from Champagne, France, and the different types can make your selection process tricky. Blanc de noir is a white wine produced from black or red grapes – Pinot Noir or Pinot Meunier. Blanc de blancs is made from white grapes, almost always Chardonnay grapes. Cuvee is a top of the range champagne, usually with the highest price tag. Finally, rosé, or pink champagne, is made with a bit of red wine added to tint the coloring.
  • Prosecco: While champagne is France’s sparking wine, Prosecco is Italy’s. Prosecco tends to have strong fruit and flower aromas, and because the wines age in large tanks with less pressure, Prosecco is lighter and frothier than French champagne. Fine bottles of Prosecco offer up aromas of tropical fruits, banana cream, hazelnut, and vanilla.
  • Sparkling wines: Sparkling wine is made when a secondary fermentation is introduced, resulting in carbon dioxide that’s sealed under cork – until you pop it open! And there are an abundance of fine sparkling wines out there, from California Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, to Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs, to Bruts from Austria and Germany.

Whatever your choice, you are sure to find a huge selection of sparkling wines of every type at Rockville Centre Wine & Spirits. Our wine connoisseurs can help make your decision a pleasing one for your taste — and your pocketbook!
